Event 2: Harcourts Bay of islands
Stone Store Stand-Up - Sunday 04 June
Event two is the Harcourts Stone Store Stand-Up, at the beautiful Kerikeri Basin, in front of the historic 'Stone Store', New Zealand’s oldest surviving stone building. This sheltered tributary of the Bay of Islands is the home to the Pear Tree Paddlers, and has to be one of the most beautiful scenic spots for paddleboarding in all of New Zealand.
This year's Stone Store Stand-up will be slightly different to last year; the course will be entirely in the basin, so competitors will be visible at all times from the wharf. The race will consist of multiple laps around a short course, thus meaning lots of corners and opportunities for overtaking. The total race distance will be about 2km for the surfboard class, 4km for 12'6s and 5km for the 14s.
Not into racing? Just enter the 2km cruise, come in fancy dress, enjoy a leisurely paddle and you could be going home with even more prizes - there will be prizes for best costumes too.
And of course, yet more amazing spot prizes from the local businesses and community!
And definitely stick around for the event party and buffet dinner in the Pear Tree directly afterwards. All those of you who were here last year will attest to the excellence of the cuisine!
